52 Days of Sketching
DAY ONE
Shapes: Plus Sign
The first category I'm sketching is Shapes. My Day One sketch is a Plus Sign. It has simple characteristics and may not look like much right now, but I'm always thinking about the end result. As a print, plus sign patterns look amazing on fabrics or as an accent wall! You're house could look like an Urban Outfitters ad in no time. Plus (...puns!) I really like this design because depending on its size it can make a very unique statement. One could go bold with a big print or stay more minimalist with small prints.

DAY TWO
Shapes: Triangle
When I woke up to sketch this morning I had such a freak out moment. Not the totally called for kind, more of the insane, there are so many other things you could actually freak out but you're wasting your time thinking about THIS, kind.
'This' was...what type of triangle I was going to sketch for the day. Yup. I could have been really freaking out over obvious things like, budgeting, job applications, or the cat peeing on all of my clothing, but triangles, they got me. I had only remembered today that there is more than one kind of triangle. So....I decided to make a special drawing. I made an equilateral (as best as I could) and I think maybe you could make a scalene triangle out of half of my wonderful equilateral triangle. If I have my names wrong I am sure some geometry nerd will let me know! So here it is! My daily sketch! I made three sizes because once again I just couldn't decide what I wanted. The quarter is for scale.

DAY THREE
Shapes: Rectangle
This rectangle design may not look like too much, but I'm digging it! I love how clean the lines are and I can see how it can be used in the future. The center can be carved out completely, or I could put another design or some words in there to make a label. The sides could be embellished and the center could remain in tack. I'm getting a little carried away with myself, without further adieu, I present to you rectangle, and inner rectangle.

DAY FOUR
Shapes: Circle
It's day four and my schedule has started to get busy. I'm honestly surprised I didn't forget to sketch today. These circles were pretty difficult to sketch. I came home exhausted and with a headache, and when I tried to draw a circle the first time I realized I definitely wasn't skilled enough to freehand it. So, after tracing a cup, shot glass, doggie poo bag fire hydrant holder, and a bolt later I had some circles drawn. I wish they looked a little bit neater, but they'll do for now.
Circles are hard, guys. Circles are hard.

DAY FIVE
Nature: Tree
It took some trial and error in what trees I was actually capable of drawing right now, but I think I chose a pretty good one:
The Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree.
It is currently my favorite indoor plant. I LOVE how a full grown tree adds a statement to a room. It looks so classic and put together. If I see a photo with one I always think to myself "Wow, that person has there life together. This is what I want to try and have my life look like [ ] years down the road". Plus I just love its floppy leaves! They get so big!!! They're just such adorable plants!

DAY SIX
Nature: Mountain
This is my quick sketch of Whiteface Mountain.
When I think of mountains, I automatically thing about my childhood, going skiing ever week in the winter with my father. It was my favorite day of the week. We met with friends and always had a good time skiing and falling down the mountains. Occasionally we would take a trip to a different mountain. One of my favorites was Whiteface Mountain. It had a gondola-which I had never been on before-that took us halfway up the mountain and we stayed on that part for a while. But, if you're anything like me and my family, you know there isn't a point in going on a mountain unless you can make it to the top to see the view. So my Dad convinced me to go on a different ski lift to the very top of the mountain. That ski lift was THE SCARIEST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. It was crazy tall, glacial slow, and if it stopped at all it swung like hell. Now I'm a terrified kid-probably crying to be honest-stuck on a lift with her dad. So he tries to have some fun to get me to stop being as scared. He started by hooting to listen to the echo, and when that didn't he would rock the lift and freak me out so he could have some fun. He was really reassuring the whole time that we would be fine, even though I was convinced I would die then and there. And, of course, he was right, we made it to the top and it was a life changing experience. We were above the treeline, it was a winter wonderland. Besides the trails, everything was untouched.

DAY SEVEN
Nature: Mushroom
I'm not going to lie, I sketched about 5-10 mushroom designs before I landed on this one. There are just so many mushrooms to choose from! And they all look very intriguing. Anyway, I thought this one would make a neat three part print. Maybe use some red ink for the cap, cream for the gills and off white for the stem.
With three separate sections, this one will certainly be fun to print. Tons of wiggle room for creativity!

DAY EIGHT
Nature: Grass
It turns out, I am not naturally gifted at drawing blades of grass. This was a frustrating sketch to get through. When I realized I had trouble simply drawing lines to resemble grass, I fully embraced cartoon looking grass and called it a day.

DAY NINE
Animals: Dog
This sketch is dedicated to my freaking adorable puppy, Phoenix. He may not technically be a puppy anymore at almost one and a half, but I'm sure he will always have his spunk! If you haven't seen a picture of my dog yet then you clearly have not read my blog....which is FILLED with pictures of him. He's fluffy, he loves ice cubes with all of his heart, he has a curly tail, and he's all mine!
I love you, Phoenix!
XOXO

DAY TEN
Animals: Cat
Who doesn't like a kooky cartoon cat?!
Hopefully everybody does. Tell you what, give me the name of someone who doesn't and I'll send them 10 kooky cartoon cat sketches.
I'm not even joking.
Message me on either my Facebook or Instagram page a kooky cartoon cat hater.
They've got to like at least 1/10, right?

DAY ELEVEN
Animals: Fish
Fun fact about me, once upon a time, I wanted to get a degree in Fisheries and Aquaculture Sciences. I thought I would bring about the newest trend of earth-friendly food and save the planet from overfishing. Needless to say, I did not end up going down that road.
I still have a huge heart for fish though. If there is a blood parrot in a pet shop, I'll always stop to say hello. They are the puppies of the water world. To anyone who has room for a 40 gallon tank and the heart for a pet but can't have a furbaby, I definitely recommend a blood parrot! They will feed from your hand, they like a belly rub, and sometimes they circle in the sand before they rest.
They are adorable.

DAY TWELVE
Animals: Snail
I just love drawing cartoon snails! They always look so silly!
This is Ms. Petunia.
She likes Petunias.
And lipstick.
And has aspirations to one day be brave enough to wear false eye lashes...
She just needs to befriend someone with opposable thumbs to apply them for her.

DAY THIRTEEN
Feminine Clothing: Dress
A little wordplay today.
This brought me back to elementary school. One of my favorite art classes was being assigned a word and then having to create it out of letters. I'm positive there is a name for this kind of thing, but I am new to the whole art game so I have no idea what it's called. Anyway, I was assigned the word 'octopus'. I had such a fun time creating my masterpiece that my mom ended up framing it and hanging it on the wall for years!
Thanks Momma for always encouraging my artsy ways!

DAY FOURTEEN
Feminine Clothing: Shirt
A tied-up tee-shirt.
Probably one of my favorite items is clothing. Dress it up with a blazer, skirt, or heels. Dress down with jeans, joggers, or Converse. Whatever you want, this closet staple has you covered.
I'll love you forever and always ❤

DAY FIFTEEN
Feminine Clothing: Skirt
Though my sketching skills are still developing, my imagination is at its peak! This skirt was to be that idealized ballerina-Esque, full tulle skirt. The one where you can pack on the layers to become a puffy cloud-like being, or keep it simple for a slim and sleek look. If I was a taller girl, I would certainly wear one of these skirts paired with a tee-shirt, leather jacket, and heels every day.

DAY SIXTEEN
Feminine Clothing: Heels
These heels are based on Pleaser Heels traditionally worn during the art of pole dancing. They are the most fantastic heels one could ever see or wear. When worn, they exude power and presence.
To some, these heels may be offensive. But, I am in love.
Behold.
The Pleaser Heel.

DAY SEVENTEEN
Masculine Clothing: Tee-Shirt
Tee-shirts. If I'm not working there is a 99.99999% chance I'm wearing one. They are the comfort clothes of choice for me. Personally I love a good band tee. If it's men's style that's even better! The loose fit and tied up tee look somehow never seems to fully disappear, so until it does I'm going to embrace it.
When I was thinking about what to sketch for a tee-shirt, it was clear I needed a band logo. And who better than @heymabelband my favorite local Rochester, NY band for some tee-spiration?! Their actual shirt is bottle cap themed, retro, and 1000× better than my 2-minute sketch.
If you have the chance definitely catch a show!

DAY EIGHTEEN
Masculine Clothing: Cargo Shorts
For as much as I hate cargo shorts I think this sketch turned out pretty well! To be fair, I do believe cargo shorts have a time and place, like hiking, housework/construction/projects, on a jungle mission, impersonating Ms. Frizzle, etc.
There are just so many other types of clothing options out there that are more visually appealing. Anyway. Ignore this if you love cargo shorts. Because clearly I do not have love for them and they probably deserve some love.

DAY NINETEEN
Masculine Clothing: Hoodie
Not too much to say about this piece. It's one genuine, high school style hoodie, complete with a 'Kick Me' sign!

DAY TWENTY
Masculine Clothing: Sneakers
Is it working ahead if you're already behind? Well regardless, I'm posting two pieces in one day!
This pair of sneakers on a wire seemed more interesting to sketch than just some cool new kicks. And the raw sketch of them kinda fits that mood/aesthetic. These kicks will always be watching and waiting in the sky above us.

DAY TWENTY-ONE
Accessories: Watch
A watch is one of those pieces that tells the world who they are and what they're about. Some watches are traditional, other sporty, some are fancy, and many modern watches are tech-savvy. The watch that I wear is a smartwatch, but I like to have a traditional face on it. Even though its functions are complex I enjoy viewing it simply.

DAY TWENTY-TWO
Accessories: Purse
The round purse. One of my newest additions thoughtfully given to me by my husband @codytierson and happens to be a rich mahogany colored wicker. I'm just so glad it has finally started to warm up so I can showcase it this spring. Only drawback? Phones nowadays are too darn big to fit these adorable fashion statements.

DAY TWENTY-THREE
Accessories: Phone
I love vintage items.
I think that it may have something to do with getting older. When I was a kid, I remember hating every time my parents would drag me along to window shop at a vintage collectors store. Now I can't wait to browse through all those items! Eventually, I would love to have a home filled with various vintage finds. Until I have the home part locked down, it's all in my dreams.

DAY TWENTY-FOUR
Accessories: Glasses
I always wanted to have glasses.
When I was a little kid I used to love trying on pairs of glasses while I waited for my mom to finish up getting her glasses adjusted. If I'm being completely honest, I still love trying on glasses...but now salespeople will come up to me and that takes the fun right out of it.
One day when my eyes are tired of working properly, I'll finally get to have glasses. Big, bold, and eye-catching glasses. Until then, a girl can dream, I suppose!

DAY TWENTY-FIVE
Found On The Ground: Footprint
Certainly one of my messier sketches, but when it comes to being anatomically correct...that will never be my strongsuit.
